Larumbe Danza celebrates 30 years of history with a gala brimming with talent, emotion, and dance.
On October 2, the Coslada Municipal Theater hosted a very special evening that brought together leading figures from the national and international dance scenes to celebrate the three decades of history of the company directed by Juan de Torres and Daniela Merlo.
Larumbe Danza celebrated its 30th anniversary with a unique gala at the Coslada Municipal Theater, an event that transformed the stage into a meeting place for different generations, choreographic languages, and ways of understanding dance. The event brought together prominent companies and artists who wanted to join in this celebration, which is so significant to the company’s history.
The gala featured performances by Spain’s National Dance Company, which presented *Se nos hace bola*; Ecuador’s National Dance Company, with *Sala de desórdenes*; dancers Lucía Lacarra and Matthew Golding, with *After the rain*; Sol Picó, with *La Cordero*; and the “María de Ávila” Higher Conservatory of Dance, which presented *Lo que la cañada recuerda*. The host of the evening, Larumbe Danza, brought the event to a close with *Mover cenizas*, a choreographic creation by Maruxa Salas and Erick Jiménez of SóLODOS.
This diverse array of performances reflected the richness of contemporary choreographic creation and the value of sharing dance from different artistic and cultural perspectives. The gala also served as an opportunity to thank all the people, artists, professionals, and institutions that have supported Larumbe Danza throughout its journey.
Thirty Years of creativity, innovation, and commitment to dance
Although the current phase of Larumbe Danza began in 1996, its history dates back to 1971, when Navarran choreographer Karmen Larumbe launched her artistic project in Brussels. In 1996, Juan de Torres and Daniela Merlo took on the company’s artistic legacy and ushered in a new creative era, marked by the integration of different disciplines and the search for new forms of stage expression.
Since then, Larumbe Danza has developed a rich artistic, educational, and social trajectory, with an extensive body of choreographic work and significant national and international recognition. Its work has been characterized by the exploration of new forms of expression, the dialogue between dance and other arts, and the incorporation of new technologies into the performing arts.
Based in Coslada since 2001, the company maintains a firm commitment to promoting contemporary dance, cultivating new audiences, and bringing the performing arts closer to the public. This work continues to grow through its performances, educational projects, and innovative initiatives, such as Stage_ON.
A Shared Celebration
The 30th-anniversary gala was made possible thanks to the collaboration of the SGAE Foundation, the Community of Madrid, and the City Council of Coslada, whose support is essential for promoting the creation and dissemination of dance.
We at Larumbe Danza would like to express our gratitude to all the participating companies and artists, to the collaborating institutions, and to the audience who shared this very special evening with us.
Thirty years later, we continue to look to the future with the same enthusiasm for creating, exploring, and sharing dance, convinced that the journey we’ve taken makes sense thanks to all the people who have been—and continue to be—part of this story.
