LARUMBE DANZA

Larumbe Danza is a contemporary dance company and a plural cultural company that undertakes different activities: creation, production and diffusion of performances for all audiences, for young people and children; we develop actions focused on creating an audience for dance; meetings between professionals and exchanges between companies, inside and outside our borders.

The company is also a pioneer in Spain in the creation of hypermedia dance performances, merging new technologies, such as 3D, with the movement arts.

LARUMBE DANZA

creates and designs activities with the aim of disseminating and supporting contemporary dance, for its integration into society, as a thriving cultural reality and as a participatory and educational tool.

Within the philosophy of the integral concept of the company and facing society, we think not only as creators and diffusers of cultural services, but also as an entity whose duty is to maintain and grow, solidifying every day more its foundations to generate and establish jobs.

Since the year 2001, Larumbe Danza has formed part of an artistic residence programme co-sponsored by the Madrid Community, its hometown Coslada’s Town Council, and the company itself, becoming the first company of contemporary dance that has been added to the program. It’s also supported by the Ministry of Culture of Spain through the National Institute for Performing Arts (INAEM).

With its own style, impressive for its originality and theatricality, Larumbe Danza has paved its way into most national theatre and festival networks, such as the International Festival Madrid en Danza, Festival de Otoño, Teatralia, Festival Danza Escena from Navarra, FETEN from Gijón, Festival Dansa Valencia, Palmadansa, among others.

Internationally, it has been exhibited in more than 20 countries across Europe, Asia, the Americas and Africa with the support of INAEM, the SGAE Foundation, the AECID, AC/E, the IBERESCENA program, and the Cervantes institute, as well as the Cultural Centers of Spain and the Spanish Embassies around the world.

HISTORY

Larumbe Danza Company was founded in 1971 in Brussels, Belgium, by Karmen Larumbe, a choreographer from Navarra, pioneer of contemporary dance and with a prolific artistic career that begins in her adopted country, Argentina, continues and settles in Belgium and ends in Spain.

In 1996, his son, Juan de Torres, together with Daniela Merlo, assumed the stylistic artistic legacy and the direction of the company.

With this new impulse and under the conception of an integrating work of various artistic disciplines, the company begins a new cycle of choreographic creativity, today already solid thanks to its multiple public appearances.
